	Before the principal Mass, the blessing and distribution of candles takes place as indicated in the Roman Missal.
OP	Candles may be distributed before the rite, or after the blessing. The Prayer of Blessing and the procession with stations may be observed with our proper chants, as set out in the Dominican Proper. At Mass the sequence Laetabundus may be used. The custom of the offering of candles in our tradition represents openness of our hearts to the Lord. If this is followed, the brethren and faithful hold the lighted candles in their hands until the rite of offering, which occurs while the Offertory chant is sung. At Evening Prayer, the prose Inviolata may be sung after the short reading, after or in place of the responsory.
